The AQ-4000 water filter represents a new era in home water treatment. The AQ-4000’s exclusive dual cartridge, 5 stage, filtration system uses a combination of the most advanced technologies available. This sequential system allows the system to achieve the full potential of each stage of filtration.
The "A" cartridge first reduces sediment, tiny microscopic particles that can clog the pores of a filter medium and reduce its ability to reduce contaminants. Next, chlorine is removed, the most concentrated and the most competitive chemical in our water. This removal then allows the following stages to focus on the more difficult task of reducing lead and synthetic chemicals. After the water has been through these first two stages of filtration, it then passes over to the "B" cartridge.
The "B" cartridge is where the final 3 stages of filtration take place. First, lead is reduced through a complex ion exchange process where lead ions are replaced with harmless potassium ions. This type of exchange is the most effective method for reducing dissolved lead and also enhances the natural mineral balance of water. Potassium is also one of the minerals that helps give water a natural spring water taste and a neutral pH.
Next is the most challenging and most important stage, the reduction of synthetic chemicals, like herbicides, pesticides and industrial solvents. These are some of the most harmful contaminants found in our water and also the most difficult to reduce. This is where the AQ-4000 dual cartridge system really differs from other brands. Because the competitive influences of chlorine, lead and sediment have already been reduced, this stage can focus on the essential task of reducing organic chemical compounds.
In the final stage, a 0.5 micron filter reduces water borne parasites or cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia. These chlorine resistant organisms are commonly found in drinking water supplies. They can cause flu-like symptoms for most people, but can be fatal to the weak immune systems of small children and the elderly. This final stage is an essential stage for complete contaminant protection.
