FAQ - AQ-4000 Water Filter

AQ-4000 Capacity and Specifications

After how many gallons of water does the filter cartridge need to be replaced?
Every 500 gallons or six months.

How do I know when to change the cartridge?
The cartridge needs to be replaced at least every six months, regardless of use, due to potential bacteria growth in the filter. To find a closer estimate to your cartridge replacement time, please refer to the water use chart. You may receive Email Reminders for your cartridge replacement dates, or, if you would like replacement cartridges to be shipped to you automatically, you may register for the Auto-ship Program.

What are the dimensions of the filter unit?
The dimensions of the AQ-4000 are 9-1/2” x 7” x 3-3/4”.

What is the flow reduction of the AQ-4000?
Use of the AQ-4000 results in a .5 gpm flow rate.

What is the media construction of the AQ-4000?
Bituminous and coconut shell carbon blocks with ATS ion exchange resin.

What materials make up the housing of the AQ-4000 counter-top faucet?
The AQ-4000 is made with ABS 15% glass plastic for the housing and LDPE (low density polyethylene) for the tubing.

What kind of technology does the AQ-4000 use?
The filter unit uses mechanical filtration down to .5 microns, carbon block filtration, and ion exchange.

Is there an installation option for including the water line that goes to the refrigerator chilled water dispenser and ice maker?
The AQ-4000 is not designed for use with an ice maker, as such use would require constant pressure that the plastic housing of the filter unit simply cannot handle. It may last two days or two decades, but eventually the housing is going to give. If no one is home at the time, flooding will occur. Even if the operating psi of your refrigerator is below the max operating psi of the AQ-4000, the filter is not designed for constant pressure. We no longer produce or carry a refrigerator filter, as most refrigerators with ice makers and drinking fountains have different specifications. Virtually all refrigerator manufacturers now offer filters for their brands. Please check with your appliance dealer.

Contaminant Removal Rates

Do you have a comprehensive list of the contaminants and percentages of these contaminants the AQ-4000 removes?
Yes, you may find a list of contaminants and reduction rates on the Home Water Filter Comparison Chart.

Will the AQ-4000 filter remove sulfur odor from well water?
The AQ-4000 will remove sulfur odor in most locations. In regions such as the south of Florida, the AQ-4000 will only reduce it. We recommend that consumers in South Florida use the EQ-300, as it will remove the sulfur to a higher degree for a longer capacity.

What pH level does the AQ-4000 bring to drinking water?
Both the AQ-4000 and the EQ-300 will help to stabilize the pH between 7.25 and 8.5.

Does the AQ-4000 remove iron and rust from well water?
The AQ-4000 will reduce TDS, iron, and rust down to .5 microns (40 times smaller than what is visible to the human eye).

Product Comparisons

How does the Aquasana process compare to Reverse Osmosis?
The Aquasana process is far superior. The AQ-4000, unlike reverse osmosis, is a selective filter that reduces chemical and metal contaminants while leaving in good, healthy minerals for pH balanced, great tasting water. The AQ-4000 also wastes no water in the filtration process, as opposed to a reverse osmosis system that will waste approximately three gallons of water for every one gallon it purifies.

How does the Aquasana process compare to Distillation?
The AQ-4000, unlike distillation, is a selective filter that reduces chemical and metal contaminants while leaving in good, healthy trace minerals for pH balanced, great tasting water. Distillation removes only contaminants with a higher boiling point than water; chlorine and VOCs are not included among these contaminants. Distillation, like reverse osmosis, is also a relatively wasteful and inefficient process when compared to the AQ-4000.

How would you compare the Aquasana water filter to its competitors?
Comparing water filter systems is simple. All you need to do is look at certified performance data sheets, such as the chart provided.

How does the water from the AQ-4000 compare to bottled water?
Bottled water quality is determined under different standards than tap water and is, therefore, quite difficult to regulate. Many bottled water brands merely purify tap water with a reverse osmosis or other treatment system and then reintroduce minerals for enhanced taste. The AQ-4000 retains natural trace minerals for a great-tasting, cost-effective product with reliable quality.

Certification

Does the AQ-4000 meet NSF Standards 42 and 53?
Yes, the AQ-4000 is certified to NSF standards 42 & 53 by Spectrum Labs. All performance claims have been reviewed and certified by the California Department of Health Services, the strictest regulatory agency in the United States for water treatment devices.
