Whole House Water Filter Benefits
What are the benefits of whole house filtration?
By filtering all of the water that enters your home, you not only greatly enhance the healthfulness of your household water, but you also dramatically improve your indoor air quality. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “Every home in America has an elevated level of chloroform gas present due to the vaporization of chlorine... from tap and shower water." Chlorine vapors are a suspected cause and irritant of respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis, and allergies. Filtered water will improve every aspect of your family’s health.
Does the whole house filter system have any benefits for laundry and/or dishwashing?
The EQ-300 will reduce any VOCs or chlorine that may be embedded in clothing when unfiltered water is used in the washing machine. Also, colors will last longer and look newer with the chlorine removed. The dishwasher releases more VOCs and chloroform into the household indoor air than any other source besides the shower. The EQ-300 prevents this toxic gas from being released. Filtered water in the dishwasher also reduces film or soap scum on dishes. For both laundry and dishwashing, filtered water reduces the amount of detergent you need to use in each cycle.
Water Treatment Comparisons
Are drinking water and shower filter units still necessary with a whole house filter?
The shower system is not needed, as the shower filter and whole house filter reduce the same contaminants. However, we still recommend the use of the drinking water filter because it reduces additional contaminants (such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium) that the whole house filter does not reduce. In addition, the drinking water filter will reduce lead and other contaminants that are introduced from the home’s plumbing after water goes through the whole house filter.
Does the EQ-300 soften the water?
The EQ-300 will soften hard water a small amount, but it is primarily designed to reduce chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals, industrial solvents, and sediment. However, you may install a water softener to work in conjuction with a whole house water filter without any problems.
What are the differences between whole house units and softeners?
Softeners use salt to push minerals like iron and calcium out of the water, similar to the way insulin pushes sugar out of blood. The whole house water filter is designed to reduce chemicals and heavy metals, while retaining good, healthy minerals. The EQ-300 will reduce calcium and iron down to 5 microns with mechanical filtration.
Are whole house systems (P.O.E.- point-of-entry) better than countertop filters (P.O.U.- point-of-use)?
P.O.U. systems are by far the best way to ensure the highest quality water since many water-borne contaminants come from the plumbing in your house, especially lead and vinyl chloride from the piping. By filtering water at the point-of-use, you reduce contaminants just prior to consumption, eliminating the chance of recontamination. Point-of-entry systems are very beneficial in that they provide filtered water to all baths and showers as well as any other water appliances. When you filter all of the water entering your home, you improve not only the healthfulness of the water, but the indoor air quality, as well. Point-of-entry filtration results in the reduction of chlorine and other chemicals that vaporize and contaminate the indoor air.
